A Petőfi Ügynökség Nonprofit Zrt. „Dienes Valéria értekező próza fordítói pályázat” címmel ismét pályázatot hirdetett, amelyre fiatal, tehetséges tudományos- és szakfordítók jelentkezését várta, ezzel is segítve pályakezdésüket, és a magas színvonalú tudományos és szakfordítói tevékenységet.

Jelen pályázaton egy a fordító által fontosnak tartott, idegen nyelven keletkezett, magyarul még meg nem jelent mű fordítási munkatervével lehetett pályázni. A fordítandó mű lehetett szakcikk, tanulmány, monográfia egésze vagy részlete, non-fiction műrészlet, vagy teljes mű bármely tudományterületről. A felhívás keretében – a Babits Mihály szépirodalmi műfordítói ösztöndíj kiírásához hasonlóan – 40 év alatti fordítók, tudományos szakemberek és kutatók jelentkezését vártuk, bármely tudományterületről.

A rendelkezésre álló keretösszeg 3.000.000 forint volt. A nyertes pályázók fejenként bruttó 300.000 forint díjazásban részesülnek.

A jelentkezések elbírálását a Petőfi Ügynökség Nonprofit Zrt. által felkért szakmai kuratórium végezte. A Dienes Valéria értekező próza fordítói pályázat szakmai kuratóriumának tagjai:

 A legfontosabb értékelési szempontok az alábbiak voltak: a fordítási minta nyelvi, stilisztikai és terminológiai minősége, az értelmezés pontossága, a nyelvi koherencia, a nyelvtani korrektség, a szerző és mű aktualitása és érdekessége a magyar tudományos élet és művelődés számára, valamint a műfordító szakmai beágyazottsága. A kuratórium kizárólag szakirodalmi művek fordítását támogatta.

A 2023. június 30-i határidőre beérkezett 15 pályázat általános értékelése után alakult ki az alábbi, végső sorrend, mely alapján 9 pályázót díjazott a kuratórium:

Announcing the winners of the Valéria Dienes Non-Fiction Prose Translation competition

The Petőfi Literary Fund has announced the “Valéria Dienes Non-Fiction Prose Translation competition.” The Fund welcomes applications from young, talented scientific and specialized translators to help them launch their careers and to provide support for high-quality scientific and specialized translation.

The grant competition is open to applicants who are seeking support for the translation of a work which was originally written in another language and has not yet been published in Hungarian. The work in question can be an article in a given field of the sciences, an essay, a monograph or part of a monograph, a non-fiction work, or a complete work in any field of the sciences. As with the Mihály Babits Fiction Translation Grant, the call was open to translators, scholars, and researchers under the age of 40 from any field of study.

The available budget was 3,000,000 HUF. The winning applicants will receive a gross award of 300,000 HUF each.

The applications were evaluated by a professional committee of experts appointed by the Petőfi Literary Fund. The members of the committee for the Valéria Dienes competition for translators were:

• Koppány Zsolt Nagy (Hungarian Academy of Arts)
• Anikó Sohár (Hungarian Literary Translators’ Association)
• Chair of the committee: Dániel Levente Pál (PLF)

The most important criteria on which the evaluations were based included the linguistic, stylistic, and terminological quality of the sample translation, the accuracy of the interpretation, linguistic coherence, grammatical correctness, the relevance of the author and the work for Hungarian academic life and culture, and the professional experience and qualifications of the translator. The committee only provided support for translations of works of scholarly literature.

After the 15 applications which had been received by the deadline (30 June 2023) were evaluated, the following final ranking was established through a process consisting of several rounds, in which specific reasons were offered by the committee members in support of their recommendations:
