PesText – Words-World-Literature
The PesText International Literary Festival brings world literature to downtown Budapest in the form of a colorful festival that pushes the limits of traditional literature festivals.
Without literary translations, both our bookshelves and our lives would be less colorful. The PesText International Literary Festival brings world literature to downtown Budapest in the form of a colorful festival that pushes the limits of traditional literature festivals. It includes almost innumerable readings, roundtable discussions, and other intellectual adventures.
The festival brings international literature to Budapest in a new context, with a clear focus on the literature of the Visegrad countries, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. The broad context includes non-fiction and children’s literature, text and illustration, visual art and performance alike.
PesText has chosen the Hydra as the symbol of the festival. This mythological figure grows two new heads anytime one of its heads has been cut off. The more heads, the more languages, and the more languages, the better. This web of hydranecks and languages symbolizes the polyphony of the Pestext Festival. The organizers envisioned an open forum where various artists can share ideas about an array of important topics.
