PLF is Expanding the Portfolio for Translation Support

In an interview in Magyar Nemzet, Dániel Levente Pál, director of the Petőfi Literary Fund, spoke of the ways in which the portfolio for translation support is being refreshed: “We are dramatically expanding the portfolio: international publishing houses can apply for support not only to fund the translation of works written in Hungarian but also to defray the costs of publication. This is an important change, for instance, from the perspective of storybooks which may well contain little text but a generous quantity of translations. Furthermore, seasoned translators and translators who are just beginning their careers can apply for funding, and Hungarian publishers can apply for support for translations of excerpts from their works. We are also launching a ‘micro-scholarship’ program, which will be a substantial innovation. It will give Hungarian authors more opportunities to present their works abroad. Theatres and theatre companies will also be able to apply for funding to help cover the costs of the translation and adaptation of scripts necessary for the production abroad of Hungarian dramas and works for the theatre.”
