New Delhi World Book Fair

The participation in the fair was already planned for 2022; however, the fair was canceled due to COVID so Hungarian participation could not be realized. In 2023, there were no obstacles to Hungarian participation and we prepared with a showcase presenting Hungarian literature and the international activities of PLF (translation support grants, The Continental Literary Magazine, International Writer's Residency Program, PesText Festival, works published in English in recent years, etc.) along with three literary programs. Our programs had two objectives. Firstly, the promotion and presentation of Hungarian fiction works published in English as well as their introduction to Hungarian studies; and secondly, the launch of the Petőfi bicentenary literary translation competition and lecture series, presenting the poetry of Sándor Petőfi and deepening the knowledge of students at the University of Delhi.

Our foreign partner at the New Delhi World Book Fair was the Liszt Institute in Delhi which actively assisted us in organizing and carrying out the programs. Representing PLF, director Dániel Levente Pál was present at the book fair and accompanying events.

28 February, 2023 5:30 PM Publisher’s Meeting – a roundtable discussion organized by the Delhi Oxford BookStore and the Hungarian Embassy in Delhi, with the topic of Hungarian literature. The audience primarily consisted of directors of European cultural institutes in India (EUNIC Delhi) as well as leading publishers and editors interested in publishing European literature in India in English, Hindi and Farsi languages.

The purpose of the Hungarian presence at the New Delhi World Book Fair was to promote contemporary Hungarian literature in India. This provided us with an opportunity to showcase our publications internationally, including The Continental Literary Magazine, our International Writer's Residency Program, and our focus on establishing future translator-publisher relationships.

We are delighted to see that university students translating the works of Sándor Petőfi into their native languages plan to continue translating his and other Hungarian authors' works in the long term, based on their education and language proficiency. They expressed particular interest in Hungarian authors, especially the books by present authors Péter Szűcs and Judit Berg.

With the help of the materials we created and/or supported, we successfully presented the books by Judit Berg and Péter Szűcs during negotiations. Following these productive personal meetings, there is a strong possibility that the works of these two Hungarian authors will be published by an Indian publisher under our representation.

New Delhi Nemzetközi Könyvvásár

India, az indiai irodalmi piac és a New Delhi Nemzetközi Könyvvásáron (New Delhi World Book Fair) való megjelenés új terep volt eddig a Petőfi Kulturális Ügynökség számára, bár nem előzmény nélküli.

2022-ben már tervben volt a vásáron való részvétel, azonban a COVID miatt lemondták a vásárt, így a magyar részvétel nem valósulhatott meg. 2023-ban már nem gördült akadály a magyar részvétel elé, így a magyar irodalmat, illetve a PKÜ nemzetközi tevékenységét (fordítástámogatási pályázatok, The Continental Literary Magazine, Nemzetközi Írórezidencia Program, PesText Fesztivál, az elmúlt években angol nyelven megjelent művek stb.) bemutató standdal és három irodalmi programmal is készültünk. A programjainknak két célja volt. Először is az angolul megjelent magyar szépirodalmi művek indiai promóciója, bemutatása, a hungarológiai képzésbe történő bevezetése, valamint a Petőfi-bicentenáriumhoz kapcsolódó műfordítói verseny és előadás, Petőfi Sándor költészetének bemutatása és a Delhi Egyetem diákjai ismeretének elmélyítése volt.

Kinti partnerünk a delhi Liszt Intézet volt, mely mind a programok szervezésében, mind lebonyolításukban aktívan segítette munkánkat. A PKÜ-t Pál Dániel Levente irodalomszakmai igazgató egyszemélyben képviselte a könyvvásáron és a kísérőprogramokon egyaránt.

közönség elsősorban a európai kulturális intézetek indiai igazgatóiból (EUNIC Delhi) és az

európai irodalom indiai (angol, hindi, fárszi) könyvkiadásában érdekelt kiadók vezetőiből és

szerkesztőiből állt.

A Delhi Nemzetközi Könyvvásáron való magyar megjelenés célja a kortárs magyar irodalom indiai népszerűsítése volt. Lehetőségünk nyílt ezáltal nemzetközi szinten is bemutatni kiadványainkat, a The Continental Literary Magazine-t, a Nemzetközi Írórezidencia Programunkat, illetve a jövőbeli fordítói-kiadói kapcsolatok kiépítésére fókuszáltunk.

Nagy örömünkre szolgál, hogy a Petőfi Sándor műveit anyanyelvükre fordító egyetemi hallgatók, képzésüknek és nyelvismeretüknek megfelelően, hosszabb távra is terveznek Petőfi vagy más magyar szerzők műveinek anyanyelvükre való lefordítása kapcsán. Különös érdeklődést mutattak a magyar szerzők, elsősorban a jelenlévő Szűcs Péter és Berg Judit könyvei iránt.

Berg Judit és Szűcs Péter könyveit, az általunk készített és/vagy támogatott kiajánlók segítségével, sikerrel vittük tárgyalásokra, a sikeres személyes találkozók után minden esély megvan arra, hogy az általunk képviselt két magyar szerző egy-egy műve megjelenjen egy indiai kiadó gondozásában.
